Triple Chess rules
Triple Chess is chess on a 24×8 board built from three ordinary boards. It plays like chess, with more room, three queens and a one-time evacuation of the king.
Board and starting position
Triple Chess is played on a 24×8 board (files a to x), three ordinary boards side by side. Each player has one king, three queens, six rooks, six bishops, six knights and 24 pawns. The king stands on the m-file in the middle of the back rank, the queens on the d, l and t files, and the e and u squares are empty.
On narrow screens, enlarge the board with the + button and scroll it sideways.
How the pieces move
Every piece moves exactly as in standard chess. There is no castling. Pawns move one square forward, or two squares from their starting rank, and capture diagonally, including en passant.
Once per game, as long as the king has not moved, you may evacuate it from the m-file to the e or u square of your back rank. The king must not be in check, and the target square must be empty and not attacked. This counts as your move.
Promotion
A pawn that reaches the last rank (rank 8 for White, rank 1 for Black) is promoted to a queen, rook, bishop or knight of your choice.
Winning and drawing
- A king in check must escape the check. Checkmate wins the game.
- The game is drawn by stalemate, by threefold repetition, by the fifty-move rule (50 moves by each side without a capture or a pawn move), or when neither side has enough material to give checkmate.
